Northern Exposure: More Tales of Green-Wood Walking Tour
August 13, 2011, 1:00pm–3:00pm
Saturday, August 13, 2011
Please note that the starting time of this tour is 1 pm.
The monuments and mausoleums of Green-Wood have many fascinating stories to tell and some of the most interesting are not about the most famous. Visit with tour guide Ruth Edebohls the final resting places and hear the stories of the Father of Baseball, a pioneering embalmer, the scandalous wife of an equally scandalous Civil War general, the “best woman who ever lived,” Charles Ebbets, Johnny Torrio, Elmer Sperry, Juan Trippe, James Gordon Bennett, Townsend Harris, F.A.O. Schwarz and more. A tourist attraction 150 years ago, Green-Wood today still has the power to draw us and keep us coming back with its beauty, grandeur and history. Walk may be hilly and strenuous—wear good walking shoes.
$10 for members of The Green-Wood Historic Fund / $15 for non-members. Reservations strongly recommended; click here to purchase advance tickets online or call 718-210-3080.
