Liberty & Legacy: Honoring Green-Wood’s Revolutionary History
With the Sons of the American Revolution
April 12th , 10:00am – 12:00pm

This April marks the 250th anniversary of the first military engagements of the Revolutionary War, the Battles of Lexington and Concord. As the country commemorates the anniversary of our independence, we’re celebrating Green-Wood’s legacy as the site of the 1776 Battle of Brooklyn.
Join Green-Wood Historian Jeff Richman and the Battle of Brooklyn Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution.
Price: Free. No registration required.

(see details below)
We’ll gather near the Gothic Arch for the unveiling of a sign identifying Green-Wood as a Revolutionary War battle ground and the final resting place of over 70 Revolutionary War figures. Then we’ll walk up to Battle Hill—which served a strategic role in the Battle of Brooklyn—stopping along the way to learn about Revolutionary War history (including a patriot whose gravestone was recently uncovered!) Once there, we’ll witness the unveiling of a plaque to our Liberty Tree, planted last fall between Liberty Path and the Altar to Liberty.
This event is free and open to the public. Registration is not required, just show up! Please consider a donation to the Green-Wood Historic Fund so that we can continue to offer free and low-cost programs throughout the year.
