(Sold Out) Green-Wood at the Met
February 15, 2013, 10:00am–3:00pm
Many illustrious Green-Wood residents are represented in the hallowed halls of The Metropolitan Museum of Art. Join us in Manhattan for a special tour exploring their world-class works.
Meet inside the museum at 10:00am, where Lisa M. Messinger, associate curator of Modern and contemporary art, will lead a tour of the landmark exhibition, “George Bellows.” Bellows, interred at Green-Wood, was one of the leading realist painters of the early 20th century and this exhibition is the first comprehensive showing of his work in a half century. At noon, relax in the Petrie Café, overlooking Central Park, with lunch. Then it’s off to the American Wing with Green-Wood Historian Jeff Richman, for a tour of artwork by other Green-Wood luminaries: stained glass windows by Louis Comfort Tiffany and John La Farge; silver, jewelry and presentation vases by Tiffany & Co.; paintings by Asher B. Durand, William Merritt Chase, and Eastman Johnson; sculpture by Thomas Crawford, and much, much more. Special guest Thayer Tolles, curator of the American Wing and an expert on Green-Wood sculpture, will join the group for part of this tour.
This special tour is limited to 25 participants – reserve now!
$110 for Historic Fund Members/$125 for non-members (ticket includes lunch). Attendees 65 and older receive a $6 discount.
Meet at The Met–transportation to the museum is not provided.
