Join Margaret Leng Tan, your guide and performer, on a bizarre and bewitching journey into the world of the carnival. Experience a dizzying showcase as Tan navigates the subterranean space, performing on toy pianos, homemade sound devices, dog bowls, and toy instruments, all accompanied by a trove of masks and a whirlwind of projections.

Inspired by a haunting 1920s photograph of three clowns, the centerpiece of the evening will be the New York premiere of Curios by Phyllis Chen. (Click here for a preview of Curios). There will also be the first performance of Rosie, written specially for the occasion by ten year old violinist/composer, Anastasha Suchin. Works by Ruben Zahra, Tomi Räisänen and Stephen Montague round out the program.

Hailed as “the queen of the toy piano” by The New York Times, Margaret Leng Tan is a music legend whose practice embraces theater, choreography, and performance. Known for her dramatic sonic portrait, Dragon Ladies Don’t Weep, she is the subject of two feature documentaries and a children’s storybook, Becoming Margaret Leng Tan. Tan is a recipient of The National Endowment for the Arts’ Solo Recitalist Award and Singapore’s highest artistic accolade, the Cultural Medallion.
