Green-Wood Cemetery 500 25th Street, Brooklyn, NY, United StatesIn the 1890s, a swath of Eighth Avenue was grandly deemed Sportsmen’s Row for the many residents in horseracing as owners, trainers, and jockeys. Meanwhile, they lived among men of prominence and success in politics, business, law, and the arts. Lucas Rubin has explored their intertwined lives in his 2012 book, Brooklyn’s Sportsmen’s Row: Politics, Society, and the Sporting Life on Northern Eighth Avenue. The concert features the ISO Symphonic Band, founded in 1995 to sponsor talented students throughout New York City and led by ISO’s inimitable founder and conductor Brian P. Worsdale.
