An encore performance! Hamilton is a smash hit on Broadway, and these days the man and his legacy are all the rage. Now you can get your fill of the saga at Green-Wood! Although Alexander himself rests elsewhere, many family members and those who crossed his path are interred here. Led by historian Jeff Richman, you’ll visit Robert Troup, Hamilton's college roommate with whom he had a lifelong close relationship; William Peter Van Ness, who was Burr's “second” during that fateful duel; Hamilton's son, John, who spent years studying his father’s history; Hamilton's grandchildren, Elizabeth and Schuyler; William Livingston, who served in the Constitutional Congress with Hamilton; and many others. You’ll also discuss the Battle of Brooklyn – fought on land that is now part of Green-Wood – and Hamilton's role in that battle, the largest of the American Revolution.

When The Bell Tolls

Green-Wood Cemetery 500 25th Street, Brooklyn, NY, United States

Are we ever really ready for the time when the bell tolls? If we’re open to talking about it, we might be a least a little more prepared. This panel – an official 2016 Brooklyn Book Festival Event – will explore the complex relationship between death, dying, and the hereafter, and how any such understanding is shaped by the meaning we give to our own lives. It’s heavy stuff, but our guest presenters will guide you through with wisdom, direction and even a sense of humor. Presenters include Dale Allison (Night Comes, published by Wm. B. Eerdmans Publishing Company), Amy Cunningham (blogger at The Inspired Funeral and founder of Fitting Tribute Funeral Services), and Benjamin Mitchell-Yellin (Near-Death Experiences: Understanding Visions of the Afterlife, published by Oxford University Press).

Copies of her book will be available for signing and sale after the program.
