Green-Wood Cemetery 500 25th Street, BrooklynIn the 1890s, a swath of Eighth Avenue was grandly deemed Sportsmen’s Row for the many residents in horseracing as owners, trainers, and jockeys. Meanwhile, they lived among men of prominence and success in politics, business, law, and the arts. Lucas Rubin has explored their intertwined lives in his 2012 book, Brooklyn’s Sportsmen’s Row: Politics, Society, and the Sporting Life on Northern Eighth Avenue.
